Wildlife Management: Can Colombia Win the Battle Against Rampant Hippo Population?

The country of Colombia is currently grappling with a rather unique challenge, which involves the reduction of its hippopotamus population. These animals were initially brought to the country by the notorious drug lord, Pablo Escobar and have since multiplied in numbers, causing significant damage to the local ecosystem. In order to control their burgeoning population and safeguard the environment, the government has put in place a comprehensive plan to sterilize the hippos. This initiative is being closely monitored by conservationists and scientists from around the world, who are keenly interested in the outcome of this effort. Scores of hippopotamuses are flourishing in Colombia's lakes and streams, an obtrusive species that naturalists say is heading out other untamed life and imperiling individuals nearby. Presently, the Colombian government is pushing endeavors to drive down the populace. Journalist Austin Landis went to meet the group in control nearby around Doradal, 170 kilometers from Medellín.
